How to define lip line naturally?

There are a couple of different ways you can define your lip depending on whether you want to accentuate your natural lip line, make your lips appear fuller or in some cases, smaller.

To naturally define...
  • Start by choosing a shade of Lip Pencil close to your own lip tone (avoid darker shades of lip liner and lipstick for this type of application as they will make your lips look thinner and smaller). Dervish, Chicory and Chestnut Lip Pencils work for the majority of light, medium and dark skin tones respectively.
  • Start by outlining the side-by-side arched curves in the center top lip (the Cupid’s Bow) and then starting at the outer corner of the upper lip, etch inwards toward the Cupid’s Bow.
  • Sketch along the center of the lower lip, and then again start from the corners and work your way to the middle with your pencil. Use a 316 Synthetic Lip Brush to blend and soften the pencil inward and onto the lip itself.
  • For a natural definition you can leave it at that or pop a small amount of Lipglass Clear on top to give a small amount of shine.

  • To enhance your lips and make them look bigger...
  • I would select a lip pencil that is a matte neutral shade to keep the look as natural looking as possible. The key is to use a nude shade with the same undertones as your skin tone as that way the contrast of shades looks cohesive, so if you have pink undertones in you lips, use a neutral shade with a slightly pink hue.
  • I like to shade the outer corners first with a sharp pencil rather than automatically following the lip line as softens the natural line making it less noticable.
  • Then trace along your lip line while gradually going outside of your mouth's natural border, and again do this going from the outer corner to the Cupid's Bow, but only slightly!
  • Following your natural shape (and not going too far outside the natural border) will look the most natural, while also effectively enhancing your pout.
  • Pop a creamy lipstick or plumpling gloss like Goldieloxxed on top to reflet light making the lips appear larger.
